The Malwa Plateau holds more history per square kilometre than almost anywhere in India. Mandu is where a king built his love story in stone. Maheshwar is where a queen ran her kingdom with quiet good sense, and left behind a river town that still feels just so.
A short, well-paced loop palace ruins, the Narmada ghats, and Indore’s street food at the end of it.
A forgotten Afghan capital, where palaces rise from the hills and legends linger in every stone.
You will be received at Indore and driven to Mandu (about 100 km / 2.5 hours). Perched on the Vindhya plateau, Mandu is one of Central India's most romantic heritage destinations. Begin your exploration with the magnificent Jahaz Mahal, the iconic "Ship Palace" that appears to float between two lakes. Continue to Hindola Mahal, famous for its sloping walls, and the Royal Enclave, once the centre of courtly life.
Later, visit Hoshang Shah's Tomb, India's first marble mausoleum and an architectural inspiration for the Taj Mahal, followed by the grand Jama Masjid. As evening approaches, head to Roopmati Pavilion to witness panoramic views of the Narmada Valley and hear the legendary tale of Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati.

From the grandeur of a lost kingdom to the serenity of a riverside town shaped by a queen.
After breakfast, drive to Maheshwar (about 40 km / 1 hour). Set along the sacred Narmada River, Maheshwar was the capital of the revered Queen Ahilyabai Holkar and remains one of Madhya Pradesh's most charming heritage towns.
Visit the majestic Ahilya Fort and its beautifully preserved palace complex overlooking the river. Walk down to the ancient Narmada Ghats, where temple bells, stone steps, and the flowing river create an atmosphere of timeless peace. Explore the temples commissioned by Ahilyabai Holkar and spend time observing local artisans weaving the famous Maheshwari sarees.
As the sun sets, the ghats come alive with evening prayers and the golden reflection of the fort on the river.
